Walterboro man dies in motorcycle crash
Saturday, January 24, 2009
GREEN POND - A 36-year-old man from Walterboro died early Saturday after he crashed his motorcycle into a tree along U.S. Highway 17.

A witness told authorities that at about 5:30 a.m., David Gene Mills was riding north on the highway near S.C. Highway 303 when he suddenly lost control.

It was raining, and Mills veered off the road and into a tree, Highway Patrol Cpl. Paul Brouthers said. Mills wasn't wearing a helmet at the time.

Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey said Mills owned a siding company and was heading home from Savannah. He said Mills died of multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
